Introduction:

This year at Sargent Park School I have learned a lot in each class I am in. There are a couple things that I am good at, and some things that I think I need to improve on. The things that I've learned about this year are things that are new, and some stuff I learned in grade 7. Two things that I am good at is learning about grade 7 work, but more harder. Another thing is group work because in my class I've met new people and got to work with people that I don't know a lot about. Something that I need to improve is my math because this year it's really different from last years math. It was more complicated for me, because we learned it different ways and used diagrams that I didn't understand. Another thing that I need to improve on is being more confident in working on things that I'm not good at, so I can become better. For the next 6 weeks of school my goals are to not procrastinate when exams are coming and to start studying soon. I am also going to study with other students so we can all learn about the things together. Another goals is to ask more questions in each subject so I can learn more and increase my knowledge.

My subjects:

Math

Term 1 Refection

I think that term 1, I did a good job, but in my first scribe post I said that I would not procrastinate, but I did. For term 2 I will study my hardest to get better grades on the tests and on my report card. That is one thing I can improve on for this term to be better that the first. One thing that I struggled with was probably doing the blog and making sure that I commented on all of them. My favorite thing to do was the unit rates and learning how to do the formulas for finding the are of a right triangle. I also liked reading the daily blog, to see that my fellow peers answering questions from textbook and comparing answers to what they got and what I got. We have learned a lot in the past 3 months. It had felt like we’ve been with Mr. Harbeck for a very long time. We learned about rates, ratios, proportional reasoning, square roots, Pythagorean Theorem and perfect squares. When we first learned about the formulas for the right triangle I thought it was pretty hard but then when I figured out how to do a2= c2-b2 it all became easier to understand. For term 2 I will do everything I did in term 1 but BETTER.

Integers

On the integer test I made quite a few mistakes. Some mistakes I made were forgetting about the invisible addition sign, which messed up my multiplications. Sometimes I added or subtracted wrong. When we went over the answers and I found out what I did wrong I thought about how silly my mistakes were. After having to go over it and correcting my mistakes, I noticed that it was pretty easy.

Term 2 Reflection

Here is the link to my Term 2 Reflection
This term I did well on finding area and volume for the cylinder, because it was easy for me to do. Something I struggled on was remembering the formulas for finding surface area. Next term I will do better by remembering the correct formulas for the right prisms. What I learned about percents was combining them together, finding the unit percent which I found easy. When we were learning about surface area I struggled a little bit in the beginning because it was hard for me to see how many faces the shape had. But later on I got used to it. When we learned about volume I thought it was pretty easy since I remembered most of the formulas in grade 7.
The difference between surface area and volume is that surface area is finding the area of each side on a prism. Volume is finding the overall area of the prism

My purpose got for doing this assignment was to lear how to create a visual prespective of the short story. Another reason was to show how you see the story. The last reason was because in the story there was no illustrations, so you can create your own.

CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment
-Read the short story and pick a part to illustrate-Create a drawing on what's happening in the part.
-It can be drawn in anyone's presepctive.
-Has to match with what's happening in the story.

NEXT STEPS:
I can now create a visual illustration of a short story.I can use my thoughts on what I think is happening in a short story and draw a picture.
I can now show my presepective of the story.

Simile Definition Card

TASK: What was I asked to do for this assignment?
For this assignment I was required to explain what a simile is. I was also given the task to create my own similie and illustrate a picture that relates to the simile.

INTENT: Why am I completing this assignment?
I completed this assignment because for poetry we can use similes. Secondly it was to comparte two different objects using the words 'like' or 'as'. Lastly we completed this assignment because we can create our own similes using the definition.

CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment?
- Need to know what the definition is.
- Create a simile
- Draw an illustration that matches the simile you created.

NEXT STEPS:
I can now compare twp objects using the words like or as.I can create poems using my knowledge on similes. I can now use this card to study for tests.

TASK: What was I asked to do for this assignment?
For this assignment I was required to create an illustration that matches the definition I chose from our Mesopotamia words.

INTENT: Why am I completing this assignment?
I complete this assignment because it was to help me create a study guide by visually looking at the illustration and defintion. Another reason was to prepare for creating more definition cards in the future. Lastly I completed this assignment to learn more about Mesopotamian's and what they used to communicate.

CRITERIA: How do I know what I needed to do to be successful in completing this assignment?- Create definition card that includes correct definition, illustration that matches the definition chosen, correct spellling, neatness, layout and creativity.- Create visual illustration matching definition you chose.

NEXT STEPS:
I can now create a definition card with a matching illustration.
I can now use this assignmenet to study for tests in the future.
I can now follow the given rubric and improve on other definition cards.

2 Minutes to make a difference

My topic for two minutes is "Poverty in Africa". Our groups big questions were are, " Determine the affects poverty has made on the lives of people in Africa ", " Analyze how the people in Africa deal with the conditions they are living in" and "Investigate the consequences government's poor choices has made on those in Africa ". Some key points we've researched about this topic is that lots of lives are lost due to lack of water, food, and basic human every day needs. In our project we were at the point of taking action.
